Riding the Edge
July 15, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

On July 15, 2022, 1228 Parkway Art Space, the studio home of Julie Schumer and James Koskinas, will host a summer show featuring their works and introducing the work of Esteban Grimm. The works of these three artists are disparate yet united by a commitment to a focused artistic practice.
Schumer will be showing larger format abstract paintings that are at once edgy, bold, and dynamic yet atmospheric, with great depth and mystery, integrating appearing and disappearing lines, shapes a,nd color. Schumer is a classic abstract expressionist, painting spontaneously, letting each stroke guide her to the next. Although inspired by her surroundings her work is an excavation of her own internal landscape.
Koskinas, a long-time painter of expressionist human portraits in the German expressionist tradition, as well as horses with riders, will present both human and horse portraits, reflecting his unending fascination with faces, be they human or equine. These striking paintings show Koskinas’s focus on the discovery of and emphasis on the personality of his subjects.
Grimm’s abstract work is a collection of memories, dreams, and insights from his personal journey and as a psychotherapist for many years. Working in a minimalist style, his goal is to bridge the conscious and unconscious.
