Opening Reception: The Center Cannot Hold

June 13, 6:00 pm8:00 pm

The Center Cannot Hold
opening reception: Thursday, June 13, 6-8 pm
on view: June 13–August 10, 2024

Join us for the public opening reception of The Center Cannot Hold! During the opening reception there will be a musical performance by David Castillo. Light refreshments will be provided. Opening receptions are always free and open to all!

In The Center Cannot Hold three local and national artists — Fitz J. Lewis, Sara Rockinger, and Stephanie Mercedes — engage with themes of gun violence, war, and cultural conditioning. Featuring a combination of performance, sculpture, and textile art, the collection of works questions societal norms, explores personal experiences and challenges the glorification of guns and war in our culture. The exhibition critically examines these issues and attempts to transform symbols of violence and loss into expressions of beauty, art, and transformation.

This exhibition is curated by Union Hall’s Chief Curator Esther Hernandez

Union Hall’s regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 12-6 pm. No appointment is required! For more information on the exhibition and details on Union Hall’s location visit UnionHallDenver.org.
