In a current moment of rapid media consumerism, New Tableau: Experiments in Photography critiques related trends of data collection and user privacy, the rise of idealized influencer culture and creator-driven content, the illusion of self in the digital age and in a society of immediacy.
Opening March 15 from 6-8pm, this exhibition features local, national, and international artists Roger Ballen, Stefan Jennings Batista, Ryan Dennison, Jesse Draxler, Derrell Lopez, Emily Margarit Mason, Zuyva Sevilla, Nick Tauro Jr., and Ramona Zordini. These artists and their work ventures beyond the boundaries of traditional photography, embracing subtraction, abstraction, amalgamation, unorthodox imaging and unconventional practices.
From cyanotypes to lenticular prints, thermal cameras to experimental darkroom techniques, each artist explores new dimensions of their photo practice – imbued with a sense of personal intimacy, thoughtfulness and meditation on the here and now.
