The Searching Pattern examines the intertwined nature of organic and synthetic materials that surround us and infringe upon each other. These new works by Annamarie Morris take stock of our environment during our current period of intense change. The pieces look towards potential futures through a repetition of forms, transmutations of art practices such as printmaking and weaving, and integrated sculpture. As microplastics and human influenced matter seeps into our soils and water bodies, what happens to plant life? What survives and adapts through these changes in their ecosystem? What is left behind? Are new (successful, invasive, resilient, toxic?) life forms sprung up from these changes? How do systems of organization and pattern-building relate across these seemingly disparate contexts?

Annamarie Morris is an interdisciplinary artist from Baltimore, MD. She studied Studio Art and Arts Management at the College of Charleston, and plans on graduating with an MFA in printmaking at the University of New Mexico in the fall of 2023. Her experiences both working in retail and the service industry have informed her approach to aesthetics, arrangements of objects in space, and how viewers interact with said objects. Her work investigates the parallels between forms and patterns that exist in our non-human natural world and within our human, synthetic, and industrialized one. Annamarie works in printmaking, fiber, and sculpture, often integrating multiple methods into individual pieces.
