Strata Gallery presents an Established Member solo exhibition, On Location: The Plein Air Experience by Texas-based artist Cassandra Black. The exhibition opens on February 7th, with a special reception on February 10th from 5-7 pm.

Cassandra Black’s passion is working with traditional oil on canvas, and she travels to paint en plein air. Preferring to work on large-scale canvas on location, Cassandra captures the light and essence of landscape with bold brushwork and a dynamic palette. Her undulating portraits of stately pines and majestic mountains convey not only the permanence of their forms but also the ephemerality of the moment.

Cassandra Black stated, “I’ve enjoyed being a part of Strata Gallery and am thrilled about my solo show. I am interested in how the plein air process of direct painting has an intensity that connects with the viewer. My work explores that experience of being in that place at that moment.”

Cassandra Black is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College. Her work has been exhibited throughout Texas. This is her first solo show in New Mexico.
