New Bultos and Retablos by Nicolas Otero

Visit Blue Rain Gallery for the opening and reception of Nicolas Otero’s newest works on Friday, December 13 from 5-7 pm.

Nicolas Otero is a master santero whose artwork includes finely crafted bultos (three-dimensional wooden sculptures) and retablos (paintings of saints on carved wooden panels). His work elevates traditional Spanish devotional art, blending historical techniques with cultural influences from New Mexico’s Native population. Through his dedication to traditional materials and methods, Otero’s pieces transcend religious boundaries, sparking dialogue about the art’s historical and cultural significance. His art serves both as a tribute to the past and a reflection on its continuing relevance in modern times.
