form & concept is thrilled to announce representation of Jami Porter Lara, a conceptual artist whose work spans printmaking, sculpture and installation. Porter Lara’s debut at form & concept comes at an auspicious moment in her career, closely following a major acquisition by the Smithsonian Institution and solo exhibition in New York City.
This event serves as a unique opportunity to meet the artist and engage over her stunning hand-built clay forms.
“The ceramic vessels on display ask the question of whether it’s possible to separate the artificial, which is how we think of the plastic bottle, from the technological [and] from the human. Are these things actually in separate spheres?” says Jami Porter Lara. Noting that the plastic bottle is often a container for human pessimism about ourselves as a species, the artist wonders “if we could actually see some aspect of our creativity in it? What if we could drag it a little bit closer to something natural or beautiful? Does that create space for us to see ourselves in a slightly different light?”
