In *** (a stylization of Asterisks), three artists confront the interlocking paradigms of art space as white space and identity as fixed or nameable with a live music performance by singer/songwriter Katie Pearlman.. Jami Porter Lara, Erin Mickelson, and Kate Ruck maintain artistic practices that are idiosyncratic and interdisciplinary; for this show, they contribute prints, tapestries, weaponry, neon signage, and a sandbag wall. The artists are linked by their explorations of legacy, inheritance, indigeneity, and whiteness. Harnessing personal and cultural meanings, they usher the peripheral and parenthetical to the foreground.
