Opening: Ileana Alarcón: Casa Papel

Kouri + Corrao is extremely excited to announce Ileana Alarcón’s first solo show, Casa Papel, opening October 27, 2023. The Colombian American sculptor/designer will present an immersive dreamscape consisting of twenty-one pieces that push the boundaries of medium and sustainability. Casa Papel will remain on view through December 2, 2023.

“The pieces in this body of work reflect natural landscapes and allow someone to bring these organic forms indoors,” says Alarcón. “The playful collection of pastel furniture aims to bring the viewer away from our mundane day-to-day and into a world that allows for more imagination.”

Casa Papel tackles household goods from lounge chairs and credenzas to chandeliers and ashtrays through Alarcón’s unconventional approach. Whimsical shapes evoking mythical creatures and cloudscapes, combined with bright colors bring Alarcón’s designs alive. A curated path through various vignettes highlighting the everyday use of her work, invites gallery-goers to sit, view and interact with the her paper pulp pieces on multiple levels.
