This is a Halloween party celebrating life, death, and the end of an art exhibition! If you would like to enter our costume contest, come dressed at your best. The winner will be revealed and receive a prize at the end of the night.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Fear and fascination with death have often stirred human imagination. In an attempt to be comforted and make sense of it all we construct wild mythologies and afterlife representations.
One Foot in the Grave explores themes of the afterlife, with works that playfully celebrate human fallibility and our temporal lives’ messy, unconventional beauty.
What if we accepted the gruesome beauty in mortality and imperfection instead of trying to make it fit into a perfect life-like mold? What if we allowed for more conversation around this stigmatized topic?
Curated by Esther Hz, this collection of artwork with bold, unrepressed mark-making, art brut, and colorful composition styles, featured artists — Julio Alejandro, Dylan Griffith, Precious Kofi, Alicia Ordal, Kristin Reeves, and Masha Sha —explore otherworldly themes. While some work seems to fathom the void, others seek to grasp life’s subconscious undercurrents and messages from the other side.
One Foot in the Grave closes on the night of this party!
