The event will be hosted in GAMA’s Robert W. Hoffert Learning Center on Saturday, September 23, from 1-4 pm.
Studio potter and Associate Professor Sanam Emami will lead a special workshop inspired by the encore exhibition of Shattering Perspectives: A Teaching Collection of African Ceramics!
Join us for a free gallery tour at 1 pm, led by exhibition curator Dave Riep. At 2 pm, Sanam Emami will demonstrate various hand-building and decorative techniques similar to those used to create the vessels in the Shattering Perspectives gallery. Participants can follow along and create a small-scale vessel of their own or practice decorating slabs of clay.
The gallery tour from 1-2 pm with Dave Riep is free and open to all, and registration is available on Eventbrite and through the museum website. Workshop participants are highly encouraged to attend the gallery tour at 1 pm before the class begins at 2 pm.
The pottery workshop with Sanam Emami is from 2-4 pm and requires a ten-dollar materials fee. To register, please visit GAMA’s online store to pay the fee, which will go directly towards clay and workshop supplies.
