Material Gallery is pleased to present Form in Formation in conjunction with Salt Lake City hosting this year’s National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference. Form in Formation, organized by Hideo Mabuchi, will feature the work of nine national and international clay artists: Molly Altman, Kelly Connole, Eva Kwong, Sarah Logan, Hideo Mabuchi, Hitomi Shibata, Juliane Shibata, Takuro Shibata, and Megan Thomas.
Form in Formation invites our local community and out-of-state visitors to connect with these artists’ works and creative processes. An exciting showcase of traditional and innovative ceramic pieces for anyone from art lovers to avid collectors will be on view from Wednesday, March 26, through Saturday, March 29, 2025.
“How do we find form, and how can we make it mean? Kelly Connole and Megan Thomas sensitively relate forms foraged from nature and culture; Hitomi Shibata and Takuro Shibata transform wild clay and natural materials as expressions of traditional craft; Eva Kwong and Sarah Logan repurpose evocative biotic forms; Molly Altman, Hideo Mabuchi, and Juliane Shibata explore formal synergies through assembly. As the footprint of exploration, form physicalizes how we search for knowing, feeling, and connection. Our functional, sculptural, and installation works are presented alongside sources, snapshots, and sidelines of the creative strivings behind them.” – Hideo Mabuchi
