seating and refreshments: October 9, 6:30 pm
screening: October 9, 7-9 pm
installation on view: April 4-November 3, 2024, at Laguna Gloria
Join us down in the amphitheater at Laguna Gloria for a film screening of the documentary film Mariposa Relámpago. The screening will be followed by a brief conversation and public Q&A with artist Guadalupe Maravilla and scholar Laura G. Gutiérrez.
The film Mariposa Relámpago narrates the mythology and spiritual journey around Guadalupe Maravilla’s sculpture, also titled Mariposa Relámpago. The film follows the sculpture’s process of transformation from a school bus, to a healing instrument; featuring the bus’s migration across multiple international borders, its blessing inside of a volcano, the FBI’s involvement, and its future described by a Tarot card reader.
This screening is open to the public and admission is free. Skip the line with advanced registration, or register upon walk-up. Seating and refreshments will open at 6:30 pm with the film beginning shortly after 7 pm. Feel free to stop by our onsite cafe Spread & Co. to purchase snacks and additional beverages. Seating for the amphitheater is on grass, dirt, and stone. Please bring your own ground seating for your comfort.
This program is presented in conjunction with the installation Mariposa Relámpago, on view through November 3, 2024.
