Darren Vigil Gray Returns
August 12, 2022 - August 14, 2022$15.00
Fifteen recently completed paintings, mostly acrylic on canvas and paper mounted on board, mark Vigil Gray’s return to the fine art community where he has been a dominant force for three decades.
Darren Vigil Gray last showed in Santa Fe five years ago at the Museum of Contemporary Native Art and at the Gerald Peter’s Gallery (now known as The Peters Project).
Vigil Gray received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts and a solo show at the New Mexico State Capital in 2013. In 2008, Santa Fe’s Wheelwright Museum mounted a 20-year retrospective of his work, Visages et Visions, and solo shows of his work have been presented at the Gibbs Museum in Charleston, SC; the Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson, AZ; the Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ; and the Hubbard Museum of the American West, Ruidoso, NM. His work has also been included in shows at the Museum of the American Indian, NYC; The Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis, IN; and the Turtle Museum, Niagara Falls, NY.
Represented by major Santa Fe galleries, including the Gerald Peters Gallery and The Peyton Wright Gallery for many years, the Covid pandemic gave Vigil Gray his first experience as what he calls “an underground artist,” showing only in his studio. Today, he is represented by the Julie Keyes Art Gallery in Sag Harbor, NY, and for this show, by Morris Fernandez Trading Company of Santa Fe, co-producers of the Objects of Art & American Indian/Tribal Show. His recent works have sold in a range from $2,500 to $22,000 on the East Coast and from his Santa Fe atelier.
