Daniel Stephensen at Alluvial

October 1, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

I have this aphoristic remark from poet Paul Celan kicking around in my head: “Give in when outnumbered, but as prisoner speak in an un-understandable language,” and I used to think that the point was to go on speaking no matter what, but now I really think I had it upside-down, or inside-out: there is an absolutely impervious need to compose oneself in some language, Celan is saying.

I see that what I’ve made is a kind of art, but it doesn’t really matter. What really matters is the language, or languages, that are coming into the world now—and no metaphors here: stone language, wood language, light language. What really matters is then to compose oneself, to be in that impervious need—that’s it—here it is, here it is…

—Daniel Stephensen

Alluvial is proud to present the film, poetry, and sculptural efforts of Daniel Stephensen, please join them for their second exhibition.

Former Australian Dan Stephensen, PhD in poetry and science fiction studies (translating early works of Cuban science fiction is a slow passion), sometime filmmaker for himself and LittleglobeTV in Santa Fe, unlearned carver of things, and in his day job a marketer and author community manager, a unique and enjoyable combination.
