Counterpoints: Skateboard Artists and Mother Artists
May 28, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Counterpoints is a pop-up group exhibition highlighting artists from two seemingly disparate cultures: skateboarders and mothers. Skate culture is youth-driven, its visual language is influenced by punk rock, hip hop, surfing, and graffiti/street art. Motherhood is steeped in the culture of caregiving, and its art is driven by the mundane repetition and materials of daily life, and connection with the natural world. While these two groups may seem like polar opposites, both have been historically marginalized, and seek authenticity, individuality, and freedom through creativity. This exhibition aims to celebrate the voices of these two vibrant cultures while bringing them into dialogue with one another.
Counterpoints opens Saturday, May 28th, from 5-8 pm, and Sunday, May 29th from 12-4 pm, at Gathering Studios on 123 Jefferson St NE, 87108. For questions please contact Danila Rumold at firstname.lastname@example.org, phone: (206) 245-3370. Work is available for sale through Gallery Tempo https://gallerytempo.com/.
