Saturday, May 31, 6 to 9 PM @ 505 Spruce, the eventual new location of kind of a small array. Outdoor seating. $20 per person, all goes to the artists.
Last February Tamara Zibners and Jennifer Sirey swapped songs at kind of a small array in Magdalena. It was raucous, jolly, amusing, and really fun, with songs that took the deep dive into standing up in the face of tough stuff. They call themselves The Butterfly Cult, hinting at change. While they both currently live in Roswell, by summer they will both be on their ways to somewhere else. Tamara plays uke and guitar and Jennifer supplied guitar and a sweet slide, both comfortably accompanying each-others original songs.
Not long after that, at the Cap in Socorro, I was lucky to experience the first gig of Cattitude, a duo composed of Colleen Gino and Ronna Kalish. Ronna set the tone with Iris Dement’s Wastleland of The Free before providing a string of originals. One of Colleen’s songs rhymes “twattery” with “lottery.” There were more than three songs about cats. Yes. Ronna maneuvered between guitar, keys, and trumpet, with Colleen on Catulele and drums. In so many words, an inspiring, rousing performance full of surprise.
Four women, three chords (at least), continuous fun: DIY Euphoria!
About that “new location.” After 2025, kind of a small array will move from the Main Street location of the last eight years to a new spot just a few blocks away. The opening date of the new place remains to be seen, but in the meantime, come have a taste on May 31.
