Coded Bias: A Conversation on AI & Demographic Bias

In partnership with the Santa Fe Institute (SFI), CCA presents a conversation with computer scientists Cristopher Moore and Melanie Moses on the complexity behind artificial intelligence and demographic bias in a new frontier fight for algorithmic justice. Their conversation spurs from the new documentary, Coded Bias, which follows MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Boulamwini’s investigation of widespread bias in algorithms upon discovering that most facial-recognition software does not accurately identify darker-skinned faces. What does it mean when artificial intelligence governs our liberties, and what are the consequences for the people artificial intelligence is biased against?
