Cinema of Transgression
August 26, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
NNC presents a collection of short films from the 1980’s Cinema of Transgression / No Wave film movement, co-programmed by Joshua Rievel and Justin Rhody.
The term “Cinema of Transgression” was initially coined in a manifesto written by Nick Zedd (R.I.P. 2022) and published in a 1985 issue of his zine, The Underground Film Bulletin. The film work is often aggressively confrontational and fiercely independent, created with a clear intention to shock and subvert traditional values.
Friday, August 26—doors at 7 pm, films at 7:30 pm
No Name Cinema: 2013 Pinon St, Santa Fe.
Free to attend – Free popcorn
“‘Transgression Cinema’ came out of nowhere and was hated by everyone in power and remains so to this day. Our movement achieved pariah status by virtue of our unrelenting attacks on dominant culture using the cheapest available tools. We proved that amateurs have more integrity than professionals and those who ape technical proficiency at the expense of authenticity show what pussies they are. That still pisses off a lot of people. Our work is exploitable to future generations immersed in the big simulation that passes for life on this prison planet.” —Nick Zedd
