Can We Know the Sound of Forgiveness Preview Performance

July 14, 2022 @ 7:00 pm

On Thursday, July 14 at 7 pm, SITE Santa Fe (1606 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM) will host an excerpt from a work-in-progress, Can We Know the Sound of Forgiveness, a forthcoming collaborative stage performance that will have its world premiere at Rice University’s Brockman Hall for Opera. The performance will be followed by a panel discussion and a reception with the distinguished artists. Tickets are $5 and advanced registration is required at SITE Santa Fe’s website.

In a groundbreaking merging of art practices for the stage, acclaimed visual artist James Drake, award-winning writer Benjamin Sáenz, world-renowned composer Gabriela Ortiz, New York-based performance artist Shaun Leonardo, and master flutist Alejandro Escuer have entered into an unprecedented collaboration to create a multimedia performance that poses urgent questions around hope and healing through a diverse alliance that spans art, contemporary classical music, performance, and poetry.

The July 14 program at SITE will include the participation of a percussionist, singers, and choral director Carmen Flórez-Mansi of the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus. As part of the project’s exploration into themes of conflict, violence, and forgiveness, Shaun Leonardo will be working with a group of local veterans on the movement-based component of the performance.
