Bright Spaces, Welcome Places: A Celebration of Queer and Trans Joy

Bright Spaces, Welcome Places: A Celebration of Queer & Trans Joy, opens in N4th Gallery on November 4 and is on view through December 30, 2022. The exhibit features artwork in a range of media by eighteen queer and trans artists in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, questioning, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex, asexual, and two-spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) community. The works featured in this juried group show hold space for both/and, transformation, self-creation, gender creativity, and the joy of queer and trans lives. The show is fun, playful, tender, and profound.

Bright Spaces, Welcome Places is presented in collaboration with Health Equity Alliance for LGBTQ+ New Mexicans (HEAL Plus NM), a nonprofit organization promoting mental health resources and technical assistance for New Mexico’s LGBTQ+ community. “Connecting with community promotes health,” notes Executive Director Alex Ross-Reed, adding, “the Queer and Trans Joy exhibit offers mental health resources within a creative arts context.”

An accompanying exhibit of stoneware pottery by Brianna Rickson and printmaking by Nichole Hendrix will be on view in the center’s new Gallery X, November 4-29, 2022.
North Fourth Art Center is hosting a reception for all the artists during ARTScrawl on Friday, November 4, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
