August Muth: Deepening the Light

April 23, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Pie Projects is thrilled to present a solo exhibition by artist August Muth, one of the great pioneers in the exploration of light and color through holography.

For many years, Muth has expanded the boundaries of holography using the phenomenological abstraction of form to explore the mysteries of light. Deepening the Light will showcase new color field pieces, including rare larger holograms, which are very difficult to create.

Muth’s artistic endeavors represent an extraordinary integration of the arts, science, and philosophy. In his holographic collaborations with laser light, he is able to archive the relationship of photons with minimal forms revealing enduring compositions of material light. His creations depict simple geometric forms that exist in free space and are unconfined within the material dimension of the artwork. The polychromatic character of these forms produces rich fields of color which are rarely experienced. He regards his work as an exploration into the natural realm of the photon where we have the opportunity to discover the mystery of light itself.

August Muth has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. His work is in many private and public collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass, the MITMuseum in Cambridge, and the Museum of Holography in New York City.
