The Outpost Performance Space and the Lensic Performing Arts Center are proud to announce the 17th Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival (NMJF), September 7–30, 2023. A collaborative project between two of the most respected non-profit jazz presenters in New Mexico, the festival features concerts and events in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, as well as affiliated events in Taos, by major touring artists, NEA Jazz Masters and respected New Mexico-based jazz, international, Rhythm & Blues and Latin music practitioners.
At the Lensic in Santa Fe this year, it’s NEA Jazz Master Regina Carter (9/14); vibraphonist Stefon Harris (9/15); eight-time Grammy-winning bassist Christian McBride (9/16) and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra (9/17), plus Meet the NEA Jazz Master with A.B. Spellman and Regina Carter (9/14, prior to the concert); a conversation between A.B. Spellman and fellow NEA Jazz Master Willard Jenkins: Aint But A Few Of Us (9/15 at Collected Works Bookstore)and a Jazz Brunch at Dave’s Jazz Bistro featuring clarinetist Eddie Daniels (9/16.). Also in Santa Fe is Blues at the Railyard feat. GA-20 and Cameron Kimbrough (9/23). In Albuquerque at the Outpost Performance Space it’s drummer John Trentacosta’s Gene Krupa tribute (9/7); Ingrid Laubrock-Tom Rainey Duo (9/8); Dafnis Prieto’s Cantar feat. Luciana Souza (9/9); Donny McCaslin (9/21); Lakecia Benjamin (9/25); Cindy Blackman Santana (9/26); Sullivan Fortner Trio (9/27); Joel Harrison w. Gary Versace; Greg Tardy; EJ Strickland (9/28); Connie Han Trio (9/29); and Aaron Goldberg’s We ARE (9/30). Also in Albuquerque is the Spanish Harlem Orchestra at the Albuquerque Museum (9/18) and Blues Night on Civic Plaza feat. Charlie Musselwhite (9/24) plus an Inpost Artspace Reception: In Flight: Taken at the Outpost: Photography by Mark Weber and Roch Doran, with musical entertainment by the Cal Haines Quartet (9/10).
