Applications for 2022 now Open
The Chinati Foundation Artists in Residence program is ideal for those who seek a quiet and supportive environment with few distractions. Chinati provides a furnished apartment on the museum’s grounds and a studio in Marfa, a small town in the sparsely populated Chihuahuan desert region of far West Texas.
Residencies are two months long. A stipend is provided to assist with travel and materials. To learn more about the opportunity and history of the Artists in Residence program at Chinati, click here.
Because the COVID-19 pandemic persists, applicants should take into consideration Chinati’s location: Marfa is three hours from major hospital care. Travel restrictions and public health concerns may impact our ability to host artists as scheduled.
Submissions will be accepted February 1, 2021–April 30, 2021. Artists selected will be in residence at Chinati in 2022. To review the online application process and fee, click here.
The Chinati Foundation’s Artists in Residence program is generously supported by the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation and the Chinati Contemporary Council, a donor group composed of cultural leaders and art enthusiasts from around the world.
