CO-OPt Research + Projects invites submissions for Under Pressure, an experimental juried exhibition that aims to create dialogue between artists and art works about the myriad pressures of the contemporary moment: the pressures we exert as well as the pressures placed upon us. The exhibition will run February-July 2021. This exhibition will be structured differently than most in that it will be changing and evolving throughout the 6-month run. As new submissions are received, artworks will be added, moved, or removed from the gallery. This means that some works may stay in the space for longer than others. Each new work added to the exhibition will act as a reflection of one set of circumstances and the initiation of another.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the exhibition will be designed for viewing from outside the gallery. The gallery has over 208 square feet of window space at the front of the building, and the entire space is visible from the sidewalk outside. With this in mind, we ask that all artists be prepared to be flexible with the installation and modality of their work.
Artists working in sound, performance, installation, video, 2D, 3D, relational media, score-based artworks, and any other medium are encouraged to apply.
All included works will be featured on our website and social media, which will be updated continually as the gallery changes over time. At the culmination of the exhibition, a catalogue will be published.
Submission Guidelines:
There is no fee to submit! Submissions will remain open and active throughout the 6 month run of the exhibition. You may submit your piece, project, or proposal, at any time between now and July 1, 2021. The review process will begin on February 7, and submissions will be reviewed on a biweekly basis until July 1, 2021. We will confirm your submission and your potential participation in Under Pressure within two weeks of your submission.
All artwork will be installed and de-installed by COOPt members unless the artist is available to handle their own work.
Important: we are a DIY artist-run gallery, we therefore do not have funds for shipping and we do not have insurance. Please keep this in mind when you are considering which works to submit.
